You are a want, not a need, so celebrate and be filled with joy!
This is a quote I once heard from a not so great movie that need not be mentioned. I believe it to be just one tiny example of how Jesus can use anything to speak to us.
“I don’t want to be the guy who’s with the girl because he needs her, I want to be the guy who’s with the girl because he wants her.”
I feel like a lot of us, myself included, sometimes gets the wrong idea about why we’re here on Earth and why God might be searching for us.
How many of us know it to be true that if you really need money, you can always one way or another find it?
Jesus told a parable in Luke 15:8-10 about a woman who had lost a coin and searched high and low to find it, and when she had she told everyone who would listen and celebrated like none other. From my own common sense and the way my brain works I figured out this: She could have, if she truly needed another coin, asked to borrow one, or sold something, or worked, or so on and so forth to get one. Instead she painstakingly searched from place to place to find one specific coin… The coin she wanted. She wanted that one specific coin and she searched until she found it and when she did she celebrated immensely.
I feel like that’s how Jesus feels about us. He does not need us to accomplish His goals, but He wants us. He wants us! Each and everyone, individually, He has called! He wants us to co-labor with Him, not try and take over the whole project.
Why are you here? Because He wanted you!
He looked at the beautiful world He created and went, “You know this is pretty awesome, but I think I’ll add something extra special to spice it up.”
That something special was you and it wasn’t because the world could not run without you, but because He knew it would be just that much better with you there.
It’s the same with His love, he doesn’t love you because He has to, or because He needs to, or is obligated in anyway, but because He wants to, because He wants you!
You’re heart is special to Him and He wants it. He pursues you because He wants you!
I feel like our society has gotten things a little mixed up by using need and want interchangeably.
A need is a requirement, necessary duty, or obligation. Something you can’t live with out.
A want is something you desire, something you wish for and crave.
He wants us because He does. He wants us because we bring Him joy. He wants us because He created us for love.
We are not an obligation or a duty, we are not a requirement or something that can not be lived without.
We are simply enjoyed!
